What to do when you're bored during summer break

So if you know me, you will know that If I get bored I will scroll through instagram or some other social media until I have something to do. So I thought that I would make a list of things to go when your bored in summer.

Spending your whole day out of school can get boring, including when all your friends are on vacation and you’re stuck at home. So here are some ways to have fun and not be on your phone all day!

#1 Bake something

Lately I’ve been wanting to try a meal in a mug, so the next time I get bored I might try to make a pizza in a mug or even a donut in a cup! They look delicious.

#2 Read a book

I get in a really bad habit of not reading as much as I should, but I love to just relax and read a few chapters of a really good book. Lately I’ve been reading the third book in the fifth wave series, The Last Star. I also love the series Ashfall by Mike Mullin, I met the author and he’s extremely nice and funny and very talented writer!

#3 Try out a DIY

Whether you fail, make a mess, or create a masterpiece at least you had fun and weren’t sitting in bed on your phone :)

#4 Go for a run

Running is great exercise and gets you outdoors. I love running on trails in the mornings when the animals are out but no other people are up yet, it’s so quiet and peaceful, but watch out for spiderwebs!

#5 Learn a new language

Whether you want to learn spanish or chinese, learning a new language can be super fun. It will get you a head start for high school and looks great on job applications!

#6 Try a Pinterest nail art

I always find these fun to recreate and try. I tried one the other day and failed but it was fun to try XD

#7 Start a blog or YouTube channel
Whenever you are bored start to film a video, write a blogpost, or take pictures to post!

#8 play a trick on your friend who’s probably on vacation… without you

>Call them and then say “sorry I’m busy can’t talk right now”
>Text them backwards and see how long it takes them to catch on (ex. Hello would be elloh)
> Or just do the old fashioned toothpaste in an oreo :)

#9 Clean your room

Reorganize, get rid of clothes, and move furniture around.

#10 Shop online and put everything you want into the cart… then see how much it is and close the tab

Hope you guys liked this fun little list, hope you decide to do one of these instead of just scrolling through social media or going on Youtube and watching every video in your subscription box :)

Testing DIYs

Hey everyone, today I’ve been prewriting a bunch of posts because I’m actually hosting a foreign exchange student this coming month. Todays post is going to be testing three Pinterest/Buzzfeed Diys, hope you enjoy.

DIY 1.)
The first Diy I tried out was colorful bubbles. I saw this in a youtube video and thought it looked really cool, so I decided to try it out for myself.

You will need:
> A plastic bottle
> Scissors
> Rubber Band (optional)
> Food Dye
> Bubble solution (I made my own)
> And an old sock

First you will want to cut the bottle of the bottle off and then place your sock over the hole. If your sock won’t stay on you can secure it with a rubber band but I didn’t need to.
Next you are going to want to drop food dye on the sock
Lastly, dip your bottle into the bubble solution and blow!

This Diy turned out really well, but the color doesn’t last very long and it’s hard to add new colors because the sock gets soaking wet, but over all i think it was really cool and really fun for pictures.

By the way I’m sorry that I don’t have very many pictures on this post - I didn’t have anyone to take pictures and it was hard to blow bubbles and take a picture at the same time.

DIY 2.)
For this Diy I made cardstock paper… i don’t know what to call it.

You will need:
> cardstock paper
> food coloring
> ruler or plastic knife
> shaving cream

So on a pan or piece of cardboard spray a decent amount of shaving cream.
IMG_5411.JPG
Then drop some food coloring on the cream and swirl it around with a toothpick.
IMG_5412.JPG
Finally lay the cardstock paper on the cream and then wipe the excess cream off with a ruler or plastic knife
IMG_5413.JPG

Overall I thought this was cool but I wouldn’t do out of my way to do this for card or something. It’s a big mess and takes a lot of shaving cream.

DIY 3.)
This last Diy is definitely my favorite one.

You will need:
> A plastic sandwich bag
> Crayola or RoseArt markers (this is important)
> Water
> Cardstock paper
IMG_5416.JPG
First make scribble designs on your baggie with the markers
IMG_5417.JPG
Next, dribble a few drops of water onto your paper and then place your baggie (colored side down) onto the water drops.

Use your fingers and kind of smush the colors and water around until you are happy and then remove the baggie.

Wipe excess color off.

This is definitely my favorite Diy out of all the ones I did. I love watercolor designs so this is a really easy way to create different designs and it’s cheap and easy.

So this past winter I repainted my room and have been slowly redecorating. Lately I’ve gotten a few pieces that I’m really excited about so I thought for today's post I’d do a mini room decor haul/other random stuff I’ve collected haul. I hope you enjoy this post and if you want more hauls leave a comment below!

So the first thing that I picked up is from TJ Maxx, I was getting ready to checkout when they caught my eye. They are little Paris themed note cards and I think they are so cute. For $2 they are nice to just keep on my desk to jot things down on or just for decoration.

The next two things that I purchased were from an antique store down the road from my house. The first thing is a small marble bowl, I think it was originally used for something other than a bowl but I’m going to use it to plant succulents in for $10 I believe.

The next thing is this beautiful bowl that I think is a ring holder for $4. It’s blush pink with rose gold trim in the shape of a flower.

I went to Michael's craft store and picked up a few things there too.
The first thing that I got is a rustic, metal letter “A” - it’s a pastel pink/coraly color and looks super cute sitting on my desk next to a mason jar I DIYed.
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
I also got these Wooden wall decorations each for $1.50. They are white and gold and will hang on my wall with the others that I’ve been collecting since Christmas.

Now if you know me I’m little kid at heart and also love donuts, so when I saw this I had to get it, I purchased a $3 donut BUT it doubles as a the absolute best stress ball I’ve ever owned if you have a Michael's near you go there and go to the toy area and get you one, it’s definitely worth the money.

Lastly as I was checking out I saw these things called Boho Bracelets by Halcraft, they were each $1 and they are so cute! There’s a different one for everyone, they have so many colors and charms. I bought three - A turquoise one with an angel wing charm, An orange one with a star and moon charm, and a royal blue one with a star charm. I’d definitely recommend these.

I hope you guys liked this random haul! Sorry I didn’t link anything, I couldn’t find the things because they were basic only in store items or there was no store website.

Cactus Garland

Image.jpg

So if you know me, you know I’m just a little bit obsessed with cacti and succulents. So when I saw a Cactus garland I was all for recreating the craft. I put my own spin on it by using water colors to paint the cacti and using three different types of cacti instead of just the standard cactus (far left cactus).

IMG_4687.JPG

For this diy, you will need:
  • Paint brushes
  • Colorful markers
  • A pencil
  • A thin black sharpie
  • Scissors
  • Yarn or string
  • Paper (white or green)
  • Water colors
  • Cup of water
  • Tape

IMG_4630.JPG
Now that you have all the materials, draw out cacti templates with a pencil. You can do the same cacti over and over again or multiple different kinds. Then cut them out.
Tip: If you don’t want to draw them freehand you can look up a cactus template and print that out.

IMG_4686.JPG

I cut out about 3-4 of each type, cut out as many as you want -- how many you have will depend on how long your garland will be.

Next you are going to use your paint brushes and go crazy with the watercolors.

IMG_4689.JPG

After that you will want to draw lines, dots, and spikes onto all the cacti.

IMG_4690.JPG

This is how the cacti turned out. If you want to add flowers just just out small flower or bud designs, color them in, and glue them onto the cactus.

IMG_4691.JPG

Finally just tape the cacti to your string and then you are ready to tape it up on your wall!

I hope you all liked this diy. I was going to try to get it up yesterday but I was out boating. If you have any diy requests leave them in the comments below!
